This Edwardian biscuit jar originates from England during the early 20th century. Constructed from clear glass, it takes the form of a rounded container with a flat, stable base and a domed lid topped by a shaped, loop-like handle. The vessel displays hand-painted enamel decoration featuring pink roses arranged in foliate wreaths and swags, complemented by blue ribbon bows. A delicate gold leaf band encircles the rim, while the handle features a spiral application of gilding. Measuring 16 cm in height and 16.5 cm in width and depth, the piece presents an intact glass body free of chips or cracks, alongside visible wear to the gold leaf reflecting its age and handling history. Today, this storage jar serves as a decorative tabletop accessory suited for placement on a sideboard or display surface in an English Country House interior. It functions practically to hold small items while adding colour and pattern to a room. The combination of transparent glass and colourful enamel detailing allows it to integrate easily into traditional living spaces, drawing visual interest through its painted floral motifs and metallic highlights.

An enamelled glass biscuit jar is a decorative lidded storage vessel crafted from clear or coloured glass and decorated with vitreous enamel paints that are fused to the surface through firing. Popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these items were designed to hold biscuits or sweetmeats for table service.

These containers were typically constructed from hand-blown clear, frosted, or coloured glass. Decorators applied powdered glass pigments mixed with oil to hand-paint intricate floral swags, ribbons, and gilding, which were then baked at high temperatures to set the design permanently.

Authentic pieces usually display slight variations in the hand-painted enamel, subtle pontil marks or smoothed bases from hand-blowing, and minor surface wear around contact points such as rims and bases. Motif styles, such as floral wreaths, bow ribbons, and delicate gilding, also reflect the popular decorative aesthetic of the Edwardian era.

Position the jar as a decorative focal point on a dining room sideboard, kitchen dresser, or marble bathroom counter. Displaying it alongside other period glassware or under soft lighting highlights the transparency of the glass and the detail of the hand-painted enamel.

Clean the piece by hand using warm water and mild liquid soap, avoiding harsh chemicals, hot water immersion, or abrasive sponges. Never place enamelled or gilded glass in a dishwasher, as high heat and detergents can degrade the delicate paintwork and gold trim.
