FAQs

Victorian furniture spans the reign of Queen Victoria from 1837 to 1901, characterised by a revival of historicism, including Gothic, Elizabethan, and Rococo influences, alongside high levels of craftsmanship and rich wood tones.

Cabinet makers predominantly utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and rosewood, frequently incorporating hand-cut dovetail joints, brass hardware, and delicate marquetry or gilt brass mounts.

Authenticity is indicated by period-appropriate construction techniques such as hand-sawn timber marks, old glass with minor imperfections or bubbles, traditional hand-cut joinery, and natural patination on the wood surfaces.

This piece works effectively as a contrasting focal point in a modern minimalist space, where its rich wood grain and classic silhouette add warmth, texture, and historical depth to the room.

Preserve the timber by maintaining stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional traditional beeswax polish, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
