An Edwardian carriage clock is a portable mechanical timepiece traditionally housed in a brass and glass case with an integrated carrying handle, popularised during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for travellers.

These clocks are typically constructed from a heavy cast brass frame fitted with bevelled glass panels on all sides and the top, enclosing a precision brass spring-driven movement and a white enamel dial.

Authentic pieces feature heavy cast brass construction, hand-bevelled glass panes, traditional platform escapements, and often subtle maker marks or serial numbers stamped on the brass backplate of the movement.

A carriage clock adds a touch of classic refinement when placed on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or office desk, contrasting well against minimalist contemporary furnishings.

Dust the exterior gently with a soft dry cloth and avoid chemical brass cleaners that can strip the original patina. Mechanical movements should be professionally serviced every few years to ensure proper functioning.
