Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks were developed in France during the early nineteenth century, specifically designed for travellers requiring a durable, portable timepiece. Abraham-Louis Breguet designed early prototypes to withstand movement during travel, leading to widespread production in France and Britain throughout the Victorian era.

Authentic carriage clocks are constructed primarily with gilt-brass or polished brass cases, bevelled glass panels on four to five sides, and white enamel dials. Internal movements feature brass plates, steel gears, and mechanical escapements.

Authenticity is assessed through hand-finished brass housing, heavy bevelled glass, stamped movement maker marks or serial numbers, and a genuine hand-enamelled dial. Mechanical movements require key winding and feature escapements visible through a top glass window.

Place a brass carriage clock on a fireplace mantelpiece, within a curated bookshelf arrangement, or atop an office desk. Combining warm brass accents with contemporary minimalism creates a balanced contrast between historic horology and clean architectural lines.

Maintain the brass case by dusting regularly with a soft microfiber cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip original lacquers or gilding. Mechanical movements should be overhauled and lubricated by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
