Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Authentic pieces usually display period characteristics such as hand-cut dovetails, older glass with minor imperfections or waviness, and natural patina on the wooden surfaces and metal fixtures resulting from decades of commercial use.

An antique shop counter makes a striking statement piece in contemporary homes, functioning as a kitchen island, a retail display unit, or a credenza in a living space to exhibit collections of ceramics, books, or curiosities.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels to prevent wood cracking and glass stress, cleaning wooden surfaces with a soft cloth and micro-wax, and using non-ammonia glass cleaner on the panes to protect aged seals and frames.

These counters typically feature solid timber frames such as mahogany, oak, or pine, combined with large panes of float or cylinder glass. Construction often incorporates mortise and tenon joinery for the structural base alongside brass or iron hardware for hinges and locks.

Victorian shop counters evolved during the late 19th century as retailers transitioned from enclosed storerooms to open-shelf merchandising and glass-fronted displays. These pieces were designed to showcase goods securely while inviting customer inspection in high street shops and emporiums.
