Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A table en chiffoniere originated in eighteenth-century France as a small, slender occasional table or chest of drawers designed to store needlework, small accessories, and papers. Popularised during the reign of Louis XV and Louis XVI, these lightweight tables were designed to be easily moved between rooms and frequently featured marquetry inlays, brass galleries, and lower undertier shelves.

Traditional late eighteenth and nineteenth-century French tables combine fine cabinet woods such as kingwood, tulipwood, rosewood, and satinwood for the veneered exterior and decorative marquetry motifs. Cast brass or gilt-bronze (ormolu) was commonly used for pierced galleries, escutcheons, drawer pulls, and foot mounts (sabots).

Authentic nineteenth-century French revival furniture features hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, solid oak drawer linings, and natural variations in the wood veneers. Look for original hand-chased brass mounts with subtle oxidisation, detailed floral or pictorial wood marquetry inlays, and signs of genuine age on the underside and interior surfaces.

A marquetry table en chiffoniere works well as a decorative bedside table, an accent piece in a formal hallway, or an occasional table alongside a sofa. Its compact proportions allow it to add warm wood tones and classical detailed craftsmanship to modern minimalist or eclectic spaces without overpowering the room.

Keep marquetry furniture away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp environments to prevent the delicate wood veneers from lifting or cracking. Clean the surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly along the grain, taking care not to snag the edges of the inlay.
