~ French - Circa 1880 ~

~~ Excellent condition, fully overhauled ~~

A large and stunning original antique French Cartel Wall clock in finely gilded bronze. Elegantly designed in the Rococo style of Louis XV, it is formed of bold, scrolling acanthus mounted with upward scrolling flowers. Surmounted by a pierced arched arcade with a garland of leaves and flowers.

The large dial is porcelain enamel on copper with its original foliate pierced and engraved hands made of gilt brass.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Samuel Marti. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is a replacement. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video available, please ask and we will send you a link.

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with hardly any wear or discolouration. Dial is also very good with just some fine hairlines near the twelve o'clock.

Complete with pendulum, bell and a suitable key. Full setting up instructions supplied if required.

A cartel clock is a spring-driven wall clock mounted inside a cast frame, typically made of gilt bronze or carved wood. Originated in France during the early eighteenth century, these clocks became defining elements of the Louis XV and Rococo decorative movements.
