The astragal glazing bars on this cupboard echo those on a mahogany secretaire bookcase, bearing the label of a Mr “Bowen/ Lamas Street/Carmarthenshire” now in the collection of Carmarthen Museum at Abergwili.*
The cupboard is made from native oak with a pale, dry finish. The cornice moulding is bold in scale and well detailed and the door fills the width of the cupboard with no stiles and encloses two shaped shelves.
The glazing bars are of slightly rounded outline and set in an appealingly simple but striking arrangement. Most of the glass is original.
Carmarthenshire circa 1800-20.
