M. C. Taylor has dated this Mahogany Longcase Clock to the 19th Century.

Behind a 12" wide (11 1/2" visible), circular painted iron dial. The white background with outer minute track and inner black Roman hour numerals and subsidiary seconds and calendar date dials. The centre has the maker's signature of "H. CONNEL" (of) "GLASGOW" and the winding holes have brass grommets. All four blued steel hands are of conforming style with the subsidiaries being counter-balanced. The dial is framed with a chamfered giltwood sight ring set withing the gazed hood door.
The mahogany case has a sliding drum hood with an applied, carved cresting mounted over the circular turned, hinged, glazed bezel. The lower hood has further applied carving and sits upon an angular plinth that is in turn upon a tapered and fluted, half-round Doric style trunk with a secret locking door to the right hand side. The base has a moulded top, plain sides and three angled front sections that are recessed-panelled. There is a short angled plinth that has four, turned bun feet. The whole case is of good colour and patina and is well-figured.
This clock is the best example of a classic 'Glasgow style' longcase that we have seen, the condition is exceptional and wholly original including the flat, cast iron weights.
The case and dial are in excellent condition. The whole clock is original and the movement is working and quite clean but would benefit from an overhaul and escapement corrective work to ensure long-lasting reliability.
