Scottish Pillar Or Column Longcase Clock With Circular Dial And Mahogany Tapered Case. Circa 1860. (long Case)

This is an exceptionally good and totally original example of a Glasgow made longcase clock.
 
The eight day duration, four pillar movement with Anchor Recoil escapement, original date wheels and
 
rack striking the hours on a top-mounted cast bell.
 
Behind a 12'' wide (11 1/2'' visible), circular painted iron dial. The white background with outer minute track and inner black Roman hour numerals and subsidiary seconds and calendar date dials. The centre has the maker''s signature of ''H. CONNEL'' (of) ''GLASGOW'' and the winding holes have brass grommets. All four blued steel hands are of conforming style with the subsidiaries being counter-balanced. The dial is framed with a chamfered giltwood sight ring set withing the gazed hood door.
 
The mahogany case has a sliding drum hood with an applied, carved cresting mounted over the circular turned, hinged, glazed bezel. The lower hood has further applied carving and sits upon an angular plinth that is in turn upon a tapered and flut...
