FAQs

Victorian pier cabinets originated in the 19th century, designed specifically to fit into the wall space, or pier, between two tall windows in formal drawing rooms and parlours.

These cabinets typically feature a carcase of secondary wood veneered in figured walnut, adorned with delicate floral marquetry inlay, gilt-bronze or brass ormolu mounts, and glazed single-door enclosures.

Authenticity is assessed by examining hand-cut dovetails, traditional wood shrinkage patterns, old-growth timber grain, hand-applied French polish finishes, and period-appropriate brass hardware.

They work well as focal points in contemporary living spaces, contrasting sharply with minimalist architecture to add warmth, texture, and historical depth to the room.

Protect antique walnut from direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations to prevent veneer cracking, and clean surfaces periodically using a soft, dry cloth alongside high-quality microcrystalline wax.
