Oak case with fan patera inlay: popular Sheraton revival taste around 1905.
Spun brass rear friction cover: standard British and Swiss timepiece assembly of the period.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian balloon mantel clock exhibits a warm brown oak construction with a rounded case shape, supported on small brass bun feet and enclosed within a stepped wooden base. The white enamel dial displays black stylized Arabic numerals beneath a polished brass bezel, complemented by slender dark hands pointing towards the edge. Decorative elements include contrasting satinwood fan marquetry within an oval patera on the lower body, accompanied by fine line stringing that outlines the front contours of the case. The polished timber surface shows a smooth grain finish, while the metal feet provide a subtle lift from the display surface. It measures 22.5 cm high, 14.5 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. Positioned upon a mantelpiece, a side table, or a desk, this timepiece brings classic English Country House style to a living room, study, or hallway interior.

FAQs

A balloon clock features a distinctive waisted shape with a rounded top, mimicking an inverted hot air balloon, a style revived during the Edwardian era from earlier Georgian patterns.

Edwardian mantel clocks were constructed from timbers such as oak, mahogany, and walnut, complemented by brass bezels, enamelled dials, and satinwood or boxwood marquetry inlays.

Authentic Edwardian timepieces exhibit precise line stringing or marquetry paterae, brass bun or bracket feet, clean dial typography, and period mechanical movements.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard top, or bookshelf to introduce a focal point with subtle historical character.

Keep the timber case away from direct sunlight and radiators, apply natural beeswax periodically to protect the polish, and ensure the clockwork mechanism is serviced by a horologist.
