Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A grandmother clock is a scaled-down, slender version of a traditional grandfather clock, typically standing under six feet tall. Originating in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these floor-standing timepieces were designed to fit into smaller domestic spaces while retaining classical longcase proportions and decorative motifs.

Chippendale style clocks commonly feature mahogany wood casings with detailed fretwork, swan-neck pediments, and carved finials. The clock faces often integrate brass dials, cast brass spandrels, silvered chapter rings, and steel movement hands.

Key design indicators include an architectural swan-neck or scroll pediment, fluted quarter columns flanking the trunk, bracket feet, and detailed brass dial work. Traditional construction methods typically show hand-dovetailed joints, weight-driven movements, and natural timber oxidation.

Position the timepiece in an entryway hallway, stair landing, or dining room alcove to create an architectural focal point. Complement the warm mahogany wood tone by pairing it with neutral wall palettes, contemporary brass lighting, or minimalist artwork.

Position the clock away from direct sunlight, radiators, and damp walls to prevent timber warping and finish degradation. Dust the wooden cabinet regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, apply beeswax polish annually, and have the mechanical movement serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
