Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the seventeenth century and evolving through the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, a press cupboard was designed primarily to store folded bed linens, flatware, and clothing. The upper section usually housed sliding trays or shelves, while the lower section provided additional drawer space.

High-quality pieces were typically constructed from solid mahogany and flame mahogany veneers. Secondary woods used for interior drawer linings and backboards commonly included pine, oak, or deal, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Look for hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original oak or pine secondary timbers, and unevenness on rear panels indicative of hand-planed timber. Genuine age presents as natural wear around handles, keyholes, and base feet, alongside subtle fading to the mahogany finish.

A substantial mahogany press cupboard works effectively as an anchor piece in a master bedroom, grand hallway, or open-plan dining area. Balance the visual weight of dark timber by pairing it with light wall shades, natural linen textiles, and contemporary artwork.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year following the grain. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, or uneven discolouration.
