This pair of late Victorian bedside cupboards follows the Sheraton revival style and dates to circa 1900. Built from warm mahogany and satinwood, they display grey and white veined marble tops, decorative brass knob handles, and fine satinwood stringing alongside contrasting mahogany panels with oval reserves and shaped corners. The slender square tapering legs feature inlaid decoration, and the cupboards open to reveal fitted white ceramic liners. Measuring 78 cm high, 43 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, these tall, narrow tables suit placement beside a bed in a principal bedroom or guest suite, offering surface space for a lamp and enclosed storage for personal items.

Sheraton style furniture, originating in late eighteenth-century Britain, is defined by linear proportions, slender tapered legs, neo-classical geometry, and contrasting decorative wood inlays such as satinwood and boxwood.

Cabinetmakers utilised dense mahogany for the primary framework, accented with decorative satinwood veneers, topped with natural marble surfaces, and finished with cast brass handles.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings, natural oxidation on unpainted interior timber, age-consistent wear around drawer runners, and natural variations in hand-cut marble slabs.

Place these slender cupboards on either side of a contemporary upholstered bed to introduce classical structure, balancing the dark mahogany wood with modern ceramic lamps or brass sconces.

Clean marble tops with a damp cloth using pH-neutral soap, while maintaining the mahogany veneer with periodic applications of natural beeswax, ensuring placement away from direct heat sources.
