Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian mahogany cocktail cabinet table by Thornhill & Co. of London exhibits a rich brown finish with satinwood crossbanding along the top leaves. The piece incorporates a rising central tray mechanism with brass handles, slender turned legs fitted with brass cup castors, and an X-frame stretcher centred by a small circular shelf. The woodwork shows subtle grain variations across the panels and structural surfaces. Measuring 76 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 59.5 cm deep when closed, this versatile furniture item functions effectively as a cocktail cabinet, lamp table, or occasional surface in a gentleman's library or empty corner of a living space. The hinged top leaves expand the surface area for serving drinks or displaying decorative objects within a traditional domestic interior.

FAQs

Originating in the early 20th century, these mechanical tables feature rising central trays or drop-leaf mechanisms designed to store and display spirits, decanters, and glassware.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany or satinwood, incorporating inlaid wood stringing, brass hinges, internal tray fittings, and brass castors for mobility.

Authentic pieces feature period-accurate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, smooth mechanical action on original brass hinges or risers, stamp or plaque marks from maker workshops, and natural wood wear.

Place the table as a compact bar station alongside a sofa, within a reading nook, or in a living room alcove, pairing it with modern glassware to contrast historic craftsmanship.

Keep the wood polished with high-quality beeswax, clear spills immediately to prevent water marks on the French polish, and periodically inspect the internal mechanical hinges to ensure smooth operation.
