A Masterpiece of Scottish Clockmaking: The Moonphase Longcase
1790–1830). Acquired privately in Elgin, Scotland, this clock is a striking example of a desirable period of Scottish craftsmanship and features highly collectible elements.
Key Features and Detailing:
• Mahogany Case with Decoration: The case is made of satinwood and features extensive hand painted designs and hand-painted oval vignettes on the trunk and base.
• Moonphase Dial: A highly desirable feature, the arched brass dial includes a moving Moonphase disc which tracks the lunar cycle.
• 8-Day Movement: The clock houses a heavy, complete 8-day movement, confirmed to have been working at one point, and is complete with its two heavy cylindrical weights and pendulum.
Condition Note: The case is in excellent antique condition with a deep patina. The movement is complete, but as with all longcase clocks, will require a service and professional commissioning upon delivery to restore it to guaranteed working order.
