A fine and original British Rail North Eastern Region railway mantel / office clock, reference B.R.N.E. 1283, dating from circa 1950 and formerly used at York Headquarters.

This is a particularly attractive example of an original British Railways North Eastern Region (BRNE) office clock, offered with its original “sold out of service” paperwork and receipt dated June 1984.

The clock is marked B.R.N.E. 1283, identifying it as a British Rail North Eastern Region issued clock. It is understood to have been used at British Rail York Headquarters, making it an interesting piece of British railwayana with a direct railway institutional provenance.

The clock retains its original mahogany-veneered case, which is in lovely original condition and has a pleasing period appearance. The base is also marked in pencil with various service, stores and maintenance markings, some of which are difficult to decipher but add to the authentic railway history of the piece.

Movement

The clock is fitted with its original Smiths 264 Empire movement with platform escapement. The movement is in fine, fully working order and currently keeping good time.

The clock is supplied complete with its winding key.
