Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the early 20th century, an Edwardian tambour front filing cabinet features a flexible slatted wooden door that slides vertically along concealed side tracks. Designed for commercial and domestic office organisation, these cabinets housed internal document trays to keep paperwork orderly and secure.

These pieces were typically crafted from solid cut oak or ash, chosen for structural strength and durability. The tambour mechanism relies on small interlocking wood slats backed by canvas cloth, supplemented by solid brass escutcheons and label plates on the internal drawer trays.

Authentic period examples feature hand-fitted dovetail joinery on internal trays, heavy brass index handles, original brass lock plates, and natural wear along the wooden tracks. Look for slatted tambour fronts lined with aged canvas backing behind the wood strips.

Position this cabinet in a home office, study, or hallway to store paper, art supplies, or flat media. Its narrow vertical proportions make it ideal for spaces requiring substantial storage without occupying a large floor footprint.

To maintain smooth operation, rub beeswax along the side tracks where the tambour door glides, avoiding liquid lubricants that can swell the wood. Protect the exterior timber using a clear beeswax polish applied along the grain with a soft cloth.
