Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A portico clock garniture is a decorative set originating in France, typically comprising a central mantel clock architecturally designed with classical columns resembling a portico, accompanied by two matching side garnitures such as urns or vases.

These 19th-century horological sets were commonly crafted from dark fine woods like rosewood or mahogany with marquetry or inlaid foliage, combined with brass or ormolu mounts and enamel or gilt clock dials.

Authentic period pieces usually feature classical architectural proportions, detailed marquetry floral inlays, silk suspension or countwheel pendulum movement mechanisms, and period maker marks stamped on the movement back plate.

Position the central clock on a fireplace mantel, sideboard top, or grand entryway console, placing the accompanying garniture urns symmetrically on either side to create a balanced focal point.

Dust the inlaid wood gently with a soft microfibre cloth, apply specialised beeswax sparingly for wood nourishment, and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilt bronze mounts or metal components.
