Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A pier cabinet is a low, narrow cabinet originally designed during the 19th century to stand on the wall space, or pier, between two windows. Typically featuring a glazed door, these cabinets were used to store and display books, ceramics, or valuable curiosities.

Victorian pier cabinets were frequently constructed using hardwoods such as rosewood, mahogany, or walnut, often enhanced with marquetry or boxwood stringing. Interiors were often lined with velvet or silk, with decorative accents crafted from gilt brass or bronze mounts.

Authentic 19th-century pier cabinets show hand-cut joinery, original glass panes that may feature minor distortions, and hand-cut marquetry or inlay work. The woodwork typically displays age-appropriate patina, natural wood grain variation, and historical wear around handles and keyholes.

A pier cabinet functions well in modern hallways, alcoves, or living rooms as a compact display piece. Position it against a neutral backdrop to highlight the rich wood tones, and style the interior glass shelves with curated ceramics, books, or glassware.

Maintain the finish by dusting regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax paste sparingly once or twice a year. Keep the cabinet away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage, veneer lifting, or fabric fading.
