This early twentieth-century Moorcroft Hazeldene earthenware vase, dating from 1910 and made for Liberty's, exhibits the distinctive characteristics of the Art Nouveau style. The squat, bulbous vessel has a wide body and a narrow, slightly flared neck, with a continuous band of tube-lined tree motifs encircling the exterior. The decoration is hand-painted in shades of teal blue and green, set against a soft yellow and pale green background with a visible crazed glaze throughout the surface. The base holds the signature of William Moorcroft alongside the Liberty's mark and a registered number. Practical in scale, the piece measures 8.5 cm high, 12 cm wide, and 12 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, this earthenware vase sits comfortably upon a living room sideboard, a hallway console table, or a study bookcase. The compact proportions make it suitable for display in smaller spaces or as part of a curated collection of ceramic art on a decorative shelf. The naturalistic motifs and distinctive colour palette complement traditional English Country House interiors as well as period homes, providing a functional focal point for tabletops without demanding excessive surface space.

The Hazeldene pattern was designed by William Moorcroft in the early 20th century specifically for Liberty & Co. of London. It features stylised trees with slender trunks executed in the prevailing Art Nouveau aesthetic of the period.

Tube-lined pottery is created using an earthenware ceramic body onto which liquid clay, or slip, is piped to form raised outlines. The outlined sections are subsequently hand-painted with coloured metallic oxide glazes prior to firing.

Authentic pieces generally feature impressed marks on the underside such as Moorcroft or Made for Liberty & Co, alongside facsimile painted signatures or initials. The distinctive raised tube-lining and characteristic glaze crazing also assist in identification.

Art Nouveau ceramics can be displayed as focal accent pieces on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or open shelving. Combining organic ceramic forms with neutral backdrop tones highlights the graphic nature of the tube-lined decoration.

Clean earthenware ceramics using a dry microfibre cloth or a soft brush to remove dust. Avoid immersion in water or exposure to chemical detergents, particularly if glaze crazing or porous ceramic areas are present.
