This Georgian clock dial dates from the eighteenth century, presenting an authentic square brass format with an engraved chapter ring showing Roman numerals, a small date window near the base, and an inscribed plaque bearing the maker name and location. Cast brass corner spandrels decorate the borders, complemented by an engraved bird motif at the centre and heavily rusted iron hands paired with an untidy pile of matching iron chain beneath. The warm brass metalwork displays verdigris oxidisation and visible surface wear, while the square plate measures 28 cm high, 28 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Placed upon a bookshelf within a gentleman's library study, this piece serves as a decorative horological display for restoration enthusiasts.

Georgian brass dials typically feature a square or arched brass plate, an applied chapter ring with Roman numerals, and cast brass spandrels attached to the corners. Engraved detailing in the centre, maker names, and calendar apertures were standard elements during this period.

These dials were primarily constructed from sheet brass plates with cast brass spandrel mounts, steel or iron hands, and silvered surfaces on the chapter ring or makers plaque to enhance contrast.

Authentic 18th-century dials show hand-engraved lettering, irregularities from hand-casting on the rear spandrels, original mounting pins, and natural surface wear including verdigris and oxidisation around iron components.

Standalone clock dials are often displayed on mantelpieces, integrated into gallery walls, or positioned on bookshelf displays as decorative architectural fragments and horological curiosities.

Dust the surface lightly with a dry, soft-bristled brush to remove debris without stripping historical patina. Avoid abrasive polishes or chemical cleansers, as preserving original verdigris and surface oxidisation maintains historical integrity.
