Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French eight-day mantel clocks are mechanical timekeepers produced predominantly during the 19th and early 20th centuries, engineered to run for eight full days between manual windings. Renowned clockmakers such as Samuel Marti crafted these movements with standardised precision, housing them in polished timber or brass cases suited for domestic display.

These timepieces usually feature fine timber cases made of mahogany, rosewood, or walnut, accented with cast brass or bronze gilt mounts. Dial assemblies feature porcelain or enamel faces protected by convex glass set within beaded brass bezels.

Authentic Samuel Marti movements are typically stamped on the rear brass plate with a circular trademark reading S. Marti et Cie along with medals awarded at Paris exhibitions. Additionally, genuine pieces display serial numbers matching the pendulum or movement casting marks.

Position the clock centrally on a living room mantelpiece, bookshelf, or sideboard to create a focal point. Balance the dark mahogany wood and reflective brass accents alongside modern minimalist ceramic vases or framed monochrome artwork.

Keep the wooden casing away from direct sunlight, dampness, and central heating radiators to prevent veneer cracking. Dust the exterior gently with a dry microfibre cloth, and have the internal mechanical movement serviced and lubricated by a qualified horologist every five years.
