We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France during the early nineteenth century, carriage clocks were developed by Abraham-Louis Breguet as portable timepieces for travellers. Designed to withstand the movement of carriage journeys, they typically feature a sturdy brass case, glass side panels, and a folding handle on top.

Traditional carriage clocks are constructed with solid brass cases, bevelled glass panels, and enamelled dials mounted over brass plates. The internal clockwork mechanisms are engineered from brass and steel, incorporating specialized escapements to maintain time accurate during transit.

Authentic antique carriage clocks typically feature heavy solid brass construction, bevelled glass plates, and hand-painted Roman numerals on an enamel face. They feature mechanical key-wind mechanisms rather than modern battery components and often bear maker marks stamped on the back movement plate.

An antique carriage clock functions effectively when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, positioned on a study desk, or arranged within a bookshelf display. The metallic brass finish and classic dial layout complement both traditional period interiors and modern minimalist shelving.

To maintain a brass carriage clock, clean the glass and metal casing with a soft microfibre cloth while avoiding abrasive polishes. Mechanical movements require periodic servicing by a qualified horologist to clean, oil, and regulate the clockwork mechanism.
