Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A matching pair of French Provincial style bedside cabinets from the 1920s, fashioned from solid oak with a pale beige bleached finish. Each unit has two drawers fitted with decorative brass drop handles, embellished with moulded drawer fronts and distinctive serpentine aprons. The natural grain of the timber shows clearly on the top surfaces, while the frames are supported by swept cabriole legs ending in classic escargot feet. Signs of age include surface wear and light sanding marks visible across the wood. Measuring 60 cm high by 46 cm wide and 38 cm deep, these compact pieces provide practical bedside storage. Position these cabinets beside a bed in a master bedroom or guest room to bring a touch of French Chateau elegance to the interior. They work well with neutral colour schemes or rustic decor, holding bedside lamps, books or evening accessories within easy reach. The slim proportions make them suitable for smaller sleeping quarters where surface space is at a premium.

FAQs

French Provincial style furniture originated in the 18th century as regional interpretations of Parisian court styles, such as Louis XV. These pieces typically feature serpentine drawer fronts, cabriole legs, and understated carved detailing adapted for country homes.

Historically, solid hardwoods such as oak, walnut, or fruitwood were utilised for the main frame and drawer construction. Cast brass or bronze handles and escutcheons serve as standard hardware fittings attached to hand-dovetailed drawers.

Authentic historical cabinets exhibit signs of traditional handcraftsmanship, including hand-cut dovetail joinery, hand-planed back panels, and wear on drawer runners. Original cast brass hardware often displays subtle hand-finishing marks and natural patination over time.

Bleached oak finishes offer a muted, neutral tone that complements modern minimal, Scandinavian, or contemporary country interior schemes. Pairing them with contemporary ceramics, linen textiles, and understated brass lighting creates a balanced contrast between period texture and clean lines.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding harsh chemical cleansers or water-based polishes. Apply a high-quality matte microcrystalline wax sparingly once or twice a year to protect the timber without darkening the lightened finish.
