This late 19th-century French clock garniture from 1880 includes a crystal regulator mantel clock flanked by two matching side urns, all rendered in gilt bronze and champleve enamel. The set combines gold, blue, and cream tones, displaying intricate floral enamel panels, bevelled glass casing, classical mask handles, an urn finial, and acanthus leaf moulding. The main clock measures 44 cm high, 24 cm wide, and 16 cm deep. Positioned on a mantelpiece, this garniture serves as a decorative centrepiece in traditional or contemporary reception rooms, studies, and drawing rooms. The matched pair of vases features figural handles, decorated necks, and square bases, completing a balanced decorative arrangement. The materials incorporate glass, porcelain accents, and polished bronze finishes throughout the set.

A French clock garniture is a decorative set traditionally featuring a central mantel clock flanked by a pair of matching ornamental pieces, such as urns, vases, or candelabra. Originating in the 17th century and reaching peak popularity during the 19th century, these sets were designed as focal points for fireplace mantels and sideboards.

These timepieces typically feature gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, champleve or cloisonne enamel ornamentation, bevelled glass panels, and enamelled porcelain dials. The mechanical clock movements often utilise brass plates with steel pinions alongside mercury-compensated or gridiron pendulums.

Authentic examples often feature maker stamps or serial numbers stamped onto the rear movement plate, finely cast details on the gilt bronze mounts, and thick bevelled glass. The champleve enamel displays cell divisions cast or carved directly into the metal base rather than applied filigree wires.

Position the full three-piece set symmetrically along a marble mantelpiece, grand sideboard, or entryway console table. Pairing gilt bronze and colourful enamel with minimalist modern backdrops or dark academia colour palettes creates an intentional visual contrast.

Clean the metal and enamel surfaces gently using a soft, dry lint-free cloth, avoiding liquid chemicals or abrasive polishes that can strip original gilding. Mechanical clock movements require professional servicing by a qualified horologist every five to seven years to ensure operational integrity.
