This Victorian 19th-century wall clock originates from London and belongs to the gentleman's library design style. The piece uses warm brown mahogany, brass, and glass materials, featuring a turned wooden surround, a cast brass bezel holding convex glass, flame mahogany on the drop case, a painted dial marked with Roman numerals and the inscription "D & J WELLBY, LONDON", and blued steel hands. Visible details include a side door with its original key and lock, an opening bottom door, and hardware like the side bezel key. The dimensions measure 33 cm high, 26 cm wide, and 14 cm deep. Placement suits narrow wall spaces in a home study, hallway, or living room. The dial displays noticeable age-related wear with light surface staining and marks across the painted face. The wooden case exhibits rich natural grain variations characteristic of flame mahogany, paired with the polished sheen of the brass bezel.

A fusee wall clock features a mechanical horological movement that utilizes a cone-shaped pulley and chain mechanism to equalize the power delivered by the mainspring as it unwinds, ensuring accurate timekeeping.

Antique fusee clocks are typically constructed with solid or veneered hardwood casessuch as mahogany or oakhousing a brass movement, a painted metal dial, and a cast brass bezel holding a glass lens.

Authentic pieces feature cast brass bezels, heavy brass plates joined by sturdy pillars, hand-lettered Roman numerals on an iron dial, and a visible chain or gut line wound around the tapered fusee cone within the movement.

Mount the clock as a focal point in a hallway, home office, or dining room, pairing warm dark timber tones against neutral or deep wall shades to highlight the brass bezel and classic dial layout.

Keep the movement free from dust, wind the mechanism regularly using the correct key size without forcing the spring, and have the internal mechanical components serviced by a professional horologist every five to seven years.
