We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A fusee wall clock features a mechanical movement that incorporates a cone-shaped pulley wound with a cord or chain to equalise the torque from the mainspring as it unwinds. Popular throughout 19th-century Britain, these timepieces were prized for maintaining accurate time measurement across the entire winding cycle.

Victorian fusee wall clocks were typically housed in cases constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over oak frames. The internal movements were fashioned from brass and steel, while the dial plates were painted sheet iron or enamel set behind glass bezels.

Authentic period examples feature hand-cast brass movement plates, a spiralled fusee cone, hand-cut gear teeth, and often carry regional maker signatures on the dial face. The woodwork generally displays hand-carved scrollwork, historic patination, and traditional joinery rather than modern mass-produced fittings.

Position the clock as a focal point in a hallway, home office, or living room on a neutral wall space to accentuate the rich mahogany tones. Pairing the dark wood and brass elements with contemporary minimalist decor creates a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Wind the clock mechanism at regular intervals using the correctly sized key without forcing the spring, and have the mechanical movement professionally cleaned and lubricated every five to seven years. Maintain the wood case by dusting with a soft cloth and applying clear beeswax polish sparingly, avoiding direct heat sources or high humidity.
