A rare and highly attractive pair of Japanese Satsuma vases by Kinkozan, Kyoto, dating to the late Meiji period, circa 1890–1910. Each vase is signed to the base with the gilt mark Dai Nippon / Kinkozan, one of the most important and desirable names in the entire Satsuma market.
 
Kinkozan stands alongside the very finest makers associated with Meiji-period Kyoto Satsuma. The workshop was celebrated for refined cream crackled glaze, exceptionally detailed enamel painting, rich but controlled gilding and sophisticated compositions made for the highest level of the international market. Signed Kinkozan pieces are especially sought after because the name represents one of the strongest guarantees of quality, prestige and collectability within Japanese Satsuma ceramics.
