19th Century Engraved Order Of Odd Fellows Glass Tumbler C1850

£160    $216    €188
Description

A 19th-century Victorian glass tumbler produced in England around c1850. The glass is engraved with symbols of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in particular, the Eye of Providence, Beehive, Coffin and Cross Quills; the crossed quills are typically used to represent the office of the Secretary.

Two figures stand on either side of the main cartouche, one holding a bow, and the other holding a flag above the ‘Paschal Lamb’. The stag is found on some other odd fellows'' memorabilia; however, it''s less common and may instead be a heraldic symbol denoting a family clan or a leadership position. Loral wreath engraved on the other side of the glass. Large polished pontil to the base and a nice tactile weight to the glass when held.
