Description

A superb tall mid 18th century plain stem wine glass dating to c1750. It has a round funnel bowl with a band of engraved Scottish thistle leaves around the rim and nut moulding below. Sits on a tall plain stem with a conical foot.

We have over 300 sold examples of 18th century plain stems on our web site, and none of them have these engravings or for that matter nut moulding.

A rare example indeed.

A Georgian plain stem wine glass is a type of British drinking vessel manufactured primarily between 1740 and 1760. These glasses feature a solid, unadorned cylindrical stem supporting a round or flared bowl, developed partly in response to glass tax legislation of the period.
