Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This matching pair of Italian Rococo corner cupboards from 1900 is constructed from wood with a deep burgundy and gold painted finish. Each piece stands 78 cm high, 38 cm wide, and 26 cm deep, featuring lower cabinet doors and upper open shelves decorated with hand-painted figures, floral motifs, and gilt borders along the shaped shelving and edges. The cabinets stand on shaped bracket feet with visible aged patina across the painted surfaces. These versatile units are suitable for hanging or placement as freestanding corner furniture in a living room, hallway, or dining space. They provide practical display and storage capacity while introducing classical Italian decorative style into an interior.

FAQs

Italian Venetian painted furniture emerged prominently during the 18th century, influenced by Rococo design, and is defined by serpentine curves, lacquerwork, and hand-painted decorations including floral motifs and courtly scenes.

These pieces were typically constructed from softwood or hardwood frames, coated with gesso, hand-painted with pigments, and detailed with metallic gilding or gold leaf accents.

Authentic items show natural paint wear, signs of hand joinery, fine craquelure across the painted varnish, and unpainted or aged wood surfaces on the backboards and internal structure.

Placing a matching pair symmetrically in opposite corners of a dining room or hallway frames the room while adding vertical height, colour contrast, and functional storage.

Keep painted timber furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement, and gently clean using a dry, soft microfibre cloth without liquid polish or chemical cleaners.
