Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

This Art Deco cocktail cabinet originates from 1930 and follows a distinctive two-tier stepped construction. The piece is constructed from walnut and burr walnut with a warm brown timber colour, finished with a professional wax polish. Exterior elements include matched wooden knobs on the double doors of both sections, along with a stepped base moulding. Internally, the upper compartment contains a mirrored back, a glass shelf, and six holders containing the original set of six cocktail sticks, complemented by enclosed shelves fitted to the inside of the doors. The lower cupboard includes a drawer and two shelves. The unit measures 167.5 cm high, 76.7 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, the cabinet functions as a drinks storage unit or display piece in a living room, dining room, or entertaining space.

FAQs

Cocktail cabinets gained prominent popularity during the 1920s and 1930s, coinciding with the rise of modern mixology and private home entertaining during the Art Deco movement. These pieces were crafted to store spirits, glassware, and ice buckets within elegant, streamlined wooden cabinetry.

Art Deco cabinets predominantly utilised rich hardwood veneers, such as burr walnut, mahogany, and maple, applied over solid timber frames. Interiors were frequently fitted with mirrored backings, glass shelving, or lemonwood linings alongside brass or chrome hardware.

Authentic pieces feature characteristic geometric profiles, stepped plinths, symmetrical veneering, and period-appropriate door handles or latches. Inspecting internal joinery, such as hand-cut dovetail joints and original mirrored fit-outs, also helps verify age.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or rich-toned accent wall in a dining room, living room, or study. Complement the timber tones with understated modern glass accessories, brass lamps, or geometric wall art to highlight its streamlined form.

Keep timber furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage and veneer fading. Dust regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish periodically along the grain to protect the original finish.
