FAQs

Delft pottery originated in the Netherlands during the 16th century, primarily in the city of Delft, as a European earthenware imitation of imported Chinese porcelain.

Traditional Delftware is crafted from buff-coloured clay, coated with an opaque white tin glaze, and hand-painted with cobalt blue pigments before receiving a clear lead glaze firing.

Authentic pieces often exhibit minor imperfections, hand-painted brushwork nuances, crazing in the glaze, and historical maker marks or cipher signatures on the base.

These pieces function effectively as focal points on a mantelpiece, console table, or bookshelf, pairing well with neutral tones and minimalist surroundings to highlight their intricate patterns.

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth and avoid submerging in water or using chemical detergents to protect the delicate tin-glazed surface from moisture damage and crazing.
