A fusee is a conical pulley used in antique clocks to equalise the declining power of the mainspring as it unwinds, ensuring accurate timekeeping.

These clocks typically feature solid timber frames such as mahogany or oak, brass bezels, painted iron or wooden dials, and blown glass covers.

Authentic pieces generally display hand-painted dials, high-quality mechanical fusee movements with matching serial numbers, and natural ageing on the timber and dial face.

An antique wall clock serves as a strong focal point on a neutral wall, pairing well with minimalist furniture to create a balanced mix of old and new.

These mechanical timepieces require professional cleaning and servicing every few years, alongside careful winding using the correct key to prevent damage to the spring.
