Boulle marquetry is a decorative technique involving inlaying patterns of brass and tortoiseshell, popularized by Andre-Charles Boulle during the reign of Louis XIV in France.

These timepieces typically feature a wooden carcase veneered with tortoiseshell and brass marquetry, complemented by cast, chased, and gilt ormolu bronze mounts.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the quality of the hand-chased ormolu mounts, the precision of the brass and tortoiseshell inlay, and the hallmarks or signatures on the clock movement.

Place the clock as a focal point on a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table where its metallic sheen and intricate patterns can contrast cleanly with minimalist surroundings.

Keep the clock away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity to protect the delicate tortoiseshell and wood, and have the mechanical movement serviced regularly by a professional horologist.
