Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French tortoiseshell mantel clocks gained prominence during the late 17th and 18th centuries, particularly under the reign of Louis XIV. Craftsmen such as Andre-Charles Boulle popularised using tortoiseshell combined with brass and gilt bronze to create intricate, architectural clock cases.

These timepieces typically feature a wooden structure veneered with tortoiseshell, accented with cast gilt bronze (ormolu) or brass mounts, and house mechanical brass clockworks with enamel dial details.

Authentic period pieces often feature signatures engraved on the movement or dial plate, individual enamel numeral cartouches, heavy cast gilt-bronze mounts with hand-chased detailing, and traditional pendulum movement mechanisms.

A tortoiseshell clock serves as a focal piece when placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble console table, or sideboard, contrasting against modern minimalist backdrop walls or paired with classic antique furniture.

Keep the clock in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the tortoiseshell veneer from cracking or lifting. Dust gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners on gilt bronze.
