Anglo-Irish glass from the Georgian era is characterised by heavy, thick-walled lead crystal, deep brilliant-cut geometric patterns, and a pronounced greyish or bluish tint caused by the raw materials and melting process.

These items were produced using heavy lead flint glass, shaped by blowing into iron moulds or free-blowing, and then laboriously hand-cut and polished on stone and metal wheels to create intricate facets.

Authenticity is indicated by heavy weight due to high lead content, irregularities such as tiny air bubbles or striations in the metal, hand-polished facets with soft wear marks on the base, and a characteristic resonant ring when tapped.

It can be used as a striking centrepiece on a dining table or sideboard, either left empty to catch and refract light or filled simply with seasonal fruit or floating flowers to add texture and historical contrast to modern spaces.

Antique glass should always be washed by hand in lukewarm water using mild detergent, avoiding sudden temperature changes and harsh scrubbing. Never place it in a dishwasher, and dry it carefully with a lint-free cloth.
