Description

A good set of four Georgian pan-top drinking glasses of very large proportions, circa 1800. The petal moulded bowl with pan top and bladed collar, the stem with ball knops and upon a wide foot with broken pontil.

A rare to find matching set of four large rummers, suitable for wine, beer or spirits. All in excellent condition.

FAQs

A Georgian pan top rummer is a short-stemmed drinking vessel produced during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries in Britain. It features a distinct bowl shape where the top section flares outwards widely above a narrower, often fluted base.

These vessels were hand-blown using lead crystal glass, often featuring hand-cut or dip-moulded fluting around the lower half of the bowl. Stems were individually gathered and worked with knops before being joined to a flat, circular foot.

Authentic Georgian glassware typically displays a slight dark or greyish tint due to the lead content, along with pontil marks on the base (either rough or polished out) and natural rim wear on the bottom of the foot.

Antique rummers can be styled on a drinks trolley, displayed in a glazed sideboard cabinet, or used for serving cocktails and desserts during formal dining.

Hand wash antique glassware individually in lukewarm water using a mild washing-up liquid. Avoid dishwashers and extreme temperature changes to prevent thermal shock and clouding of the glass.
