This is a Tempora Red and Green segment Radio Room clock dating from the 1960 mid-century maritime period. The circular marine timepiece has a warm gold brass case with a hinged brass bezel, a brass mounting loop, and an original undamaged bevelled front glass protecting the face. The white dial displays black 12-hour and 24-hour numerals, red and green shaded silence sectors, a key-wind aperture, and black and red hands. It measures 15.2 cm high, 15.2 cm wide, and 9 cm deep. Originally designed for maritime use by captains and radio operators to indicate periods of radio silence, this nautical clock suits modern coastal retreat interiors. It works well mounted on a narrow wall space in a home study, hallway, or nautical-themed living room. The piece maintains its original unrestored dial and platform escapement movement signed by Topsham Clocks, showing a dent-free brass case.

A radio room clock is a specialised marine timepiece used aboard ships to monitor radio distress frequencies. The coloured dial sectors mark mandatory three-minute silent periods during which radio operators listened exclusively for emergency transmissions on 500 kHz and 2182 kHz frequencies.

Maritime bulkhead clocks are constructed using heavy cast brass or bronze casings to resist corrosion in marine environments, paired with thick glass crystal covers and metal dials.

Authentic examples feature specific red and green shaded three-minute sectors on the dial, heavy brass hinged bezels with side fasteners, key-wind mechanical movements, and frequently include inner 24-hour numerical markings.

These functional instruments can be mounted on narrow wall spaces, in home offices, or above wooden furniture, pairing well with nautical motifs, dark timber panelling, or modern industrial metalwork.

Dust the brass casing and glass face gently using a dry microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive chemical polishes that can strip original lacquers or patinas, and maintain the mechanical movement through regular winding.
