Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

A Regency mahogany open dwarf bookcase displays a rectangular top with a reeded edge above a reeded frieze with carved flowers, fluted uprights, and carved rosettes at the corners. The piece stands on turned feet and incorporates original open brass grill ends with reentered corners. The timber exhibits a warm brown colour with visible grain, while the brass panels form a distinctive diamond trellis pattern against the sides. The bookcase measures 80 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 34 cm deep. This open bookcase suits placement in a living room, study, or hallway as a low display or storage unit. The open shelves allow for the arrangement of books, decorative objects, or collections within domestic interiors. The compact proportions enable flexible placement beneath windows or against walls where floor space is limited, while the finished sides permit freestanding or angled presentation.

FAQs

A Regency dwarf bookcase is characterised by its low height, usually designed to sit below dado rails or window sills. Originating in early nineteenth-century England, these pieces feature classical architectural motifs such as fluted columns, rosettes, and decorative brass lattice panels.

Cabinetmakers primarily used solid and veneered flame mahogany, prized for its rich grain and warm tone. Decorative components frequently incorporated cast brass wire lattice, turned wooden feet, and carved pilasters.

Authentic Regency furniture displays hand-carved detailing, hand-cut dovetails on joinery, and natural age-related oxidisation on timber and metalwork. Secondary woods like pine or oak were often used for back panels and internal structural support.

Its low height allows it to fit neatly beneath windows or artwork. Modern interior designers style the top surface with table lamps, ceramic vases, or framed prints while using the open shelves to house curated book collections.

Dust regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year along the wood grain. Keep the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to avoid timber shrinkage or fading.
