This pair of Victorian lily vases dates from around 1880 in the English Country House style. Each hand-blown piece consists of deep cranberry red glass over crystal glass, finished with a smooth gloss surface and polished rims. The visual details include a wide flared trumpet top, a slender tapered stem, and a flat circular spreading foot with a small collar joint. The photograph reveals subtle tonal variations in the ruby coloration, faint vertical striations within the blown glass body, and small reflective highlights across the smooth surfaces. Each vase measures 30.5 cm high by 13.8 cm wide. These decorative items suit placement on a mantelpiece or side table in a traditional living room setting.

Cranberry glass gained widespread popularity during the Victorian era in the nineteenth century, particularly in England. The distinct red hue was achieved through a specialised glassmaking process that involved adding gold chloride or gold oxide to molten glass.

Traditional cranberry glass is crafted by mixing dissolved gold particles into batches of molten silica and lead or crystal glass. The resulting red layer was frequently cased or flashed over clear blown glass before being hand-shaped into decorative forms such as lily vases.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically exhibit hand-blown characteristics, including snapped pontil marks at the base and minor variations in glass thickness. Genuine examples also show natural wear on the underside of the foot rim and subtle color graduation rather than uniform industrial tones.

A pair of flared cranberry glass vases provides striking visual symmetry when positioned at opposite ends of a mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table. The rich jewel tone creates effective contrast when set against neutral wall colours, dark timber surfaces, or crisp stone hearths.

Wash hand-blown antique glass carefully using lukewarm water and mild dishwashing liquid, avoiding extreme temperature fluctuations that can cause thermal shock. Never place antique glass in a dishwasher or use abrasive cleaning tools that could scratch the surface.
