Description

An outstanding Art Deco burr walnut and sycamore bookcase / cabinet by Epstein. This was made in England, it dates from the 1930’s.

The quality is superb, this is extremely well made and it is very heavy. The front is beautifully fluted in the centre with glass door cabinets on either side, it stands on a fantastic stepped plinth base. The burr walnut grain patterns and colour tones are stunning, they are complimented beautifully by the mellow sycamore tones. The glass doors have some lovely etched patterns towards the top, they have locking keys and inside there are two large toughened glass shelves.

We have had this stripped and re-polished to a very high standard, the condition is excellent throughout.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, stylised motifs, and the use of luxurious materials such as burr walnut, chrome, and exotic veneers.

Cabinet makers typically utilised high-end veneers like burr walnut, sycamore, and mahogany over solid secondary woods, often accented with glass and brass handles.

Authentic pieces feature period-specific joinery, distinctive veneering techniques, original glass panels, and makers marks or labels where applicable.

Pair the cabinet with minimalist contemporary furniture to let the rich wood grain and geometric silhouette serve as a focal point in the room.

Maintain the wood by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate furniture wax.
