Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Carriage clocks originated in the early nineteenth century in France, designed as portable timepieces for travellers. Typically constructed with a rectangular case and a top carrying handle, smaller silver variations gained popularity during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as luxury desk accessories.

These clocks typically feature a sterling silver case, often embellished with hand-hammered or engraved detailing. The internal movements are crafted from brass and steel, while the dial face is commonly made of enamelled metal or porcelain with a glass cover.

Authenticity is verified by checking for official silver hallmarks stamped on the case or handle, indicating the silver purity, assay office, and maker. Examining the mechanical movement for period-correct maker marks and assessing natural age-related tarnishing or wear also helps confirm provenance.

A miniature carriage clock functions well as a refined accent on a mantelpiece, bookshelf, or executive desk. Pairing it with dark wood furniture, leather-bound books, or modern minimalist decor creates an elegant contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary design.

Dust the exterior regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and polish gently with a specialised silver cloth to prevent tarnish accumulation. Avoid using liquid cleaners or harsh chemicals near the clock dial and movement, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced periodically by a professional horologist.
