William Galbraith, one of the outstanding horologists of the 20th century. He was born in Glasgow into a family of clockmakers and apprenticed to his grandfather at the age of 14. He worked for clock specialists Camerer Cuss in London where, in time, he became manager of the workshops and a Director of the subsidiary company, Usher & Cole. In the 1960''s he opened his own workshop in Clerkenwell where he was entrusted with the restoration of many of the world''s finest clocks. It was during this time that he made a small number of fine regulators, such as this example. William Galbraith was a Liveryman of the Clockmaker''s Company and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
An identical regulator, number 139, is exhibited at the Science Museum in London.
