A beautiful original antique French clock by the famous maker Japy Frères and retailed by Henry Marc of Paris. Superbly made in ormolu and mounted with exquisite Sèvres style porcelain with delicately painted scenes on a black ground. The panel below the dial features a charming scene of a young couple in a country setting.

The lower panel shows a tranquil river side view. The unusual black ground is lifted with delicately painted overglaze gilt decoration with applied ''jewels'' The dial is also porcelain an is complete with original gilt brass hands and convex glazed bezel. The rear bezel is also glazed to allow the movement to be seen. The clock has it''s original gesso base with matching serial number to the porcelain and movement.

The French movement is of high quality and is by Japy Frères. It is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. We have a video of the clock, please ask and we will send you a link, or paste the following into your browser: https://www.facebook.com/DragonAntiques/videos/1143682803911184

Condition of the case is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with no significant wear or discolouration. Porcelain is also excellent, the over glaze gilt decoration is excellent with virtually no wear, some of the applied jewels are missing. There is a small chip to the urn underneath the right hand handle which is hardly noticeable. The rear glass has some light surface scratches. We have recovered the gesso base with fresh fabric. The base has some slight wear.

Japy Freres clockmaker''s mark and Henry Mark retailer''s mark on the movement backplate
