This antique carriage clock belongs to the Georgian revival style from around 1900. The piece is constructed from polished warm brass and clear glass, housing a white enamel dial with black Roman numerals and black hands. Decorative elements include reeded columns flanking the glass panels, a pedimented top with scrollwork carving beneath the top carrying handle, and moulded detailing along the base. An accompanying brass winding key sits beside the clock. The dimensions measure 16 cm high, 8 cm wide, and 7 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this clock provides a traditional timekeeping accessory for a mantelpiece or a gentleman's library shelf. The portable design with its upper handle allows it to sit securely on flat surfaces, while the neutral brass finish and clear face offer legible functionality. The piece brings period character to domestic interiors without requiring extensive installation or specialized mounting.

Originating in the late 18th to early 19th century, Georgian style carriage clocks are small, spring-driven timepieces designed for travel, characterised by clean classical lines, carrying handles, pedimented tops, and clear Roman numeral dials.

They are predominantly constructed using solid cast or extruded brass for the case frame, polished bevelled glass side panels, and a white enamel or painted dial over a brass clockwork movement.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-finished brass construction, heavy bevelled glass, mechanical key-wound movements, and often stamped serial numbers or maker marks on the internal backplate.

Displaying a vintage brass carriage clock on a modern mantelpiece, curated bookshelf, or executive desk provides an elegant historical accent that contrasts well with contemporary decor.

Dust the brass casing gently with a soft microfibre cloth, avoid abrasive liquid polishes that can damage original lacquers, and have the mechanical movement professionally oiled and serviced every three to five years.
