Exhibit Antiques has dated this Antique Balustroid Ratafia Glass to the Georgian era.
A very rare 18th century Balustroid Ratafia Glass dating to c1750.
It has a narrow round funnel bowl with almost vertical sides, the bowl engraved and cut with swags. A central swelling knop stem above a conical foot.
There are perhaps some who may classify this glass as an Ale, and although that could be be true depending on your perspective, the near vertical profile of the bowl would very much point to a classic Ratafia form.
As a Balustroid Ale, it’s a very rare glass, as examples are extremely scarce. As a Balustroid Ratafia glass, the rarity is even greater. Either way, it’s as exceptional glass which we are very happy to exhibit.
