This clock stands out for its rare half-hour striking mechanism, an uncommon and intricate feature for lantern clocks of this period. The half-hour striking required precise engineering to balance the power between timekeeping and striking—an innovation seldom seen in similar clocks of the era.
Its verge and crown wheel escapement pairs beautifully with an anchor-shaped pendulum, visible through original side doors designed with decorative apertures and applied “wings” to enhance the pendulum’s aesthetic movement. The original alarm train is also intact and fully functional, further adding to its rarity and charm.
The chapter ring bears the signature and location in Richard Rayment’s early engraving style, positioned adjacent to the numeral six, marking it as an early example of his work.
