Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Queen Anne corner cabinet dates from around 1700 and uses walnut, mother of pearl, and brass. The dark brown timber finish displays a clear patina across the bowfront double doors and the moulded top pediment. The exterior shows four feather-banded panels decorated with geometric mother of pearl inlay and mosaic work. Additional visible details include original brass H-hinges, vertical escutcheons, and visible keyholes on the front panels. Measuring 84 cm high, 59 cm wide, and 34 cm deep, the cupboard is sized to fit neatly into the corner of a living room, dining room, or hallway. Position this antique cabinet in a traditional or period interior where it provides compact storage for glassware, books, or small ornaments. The corner placement makes practical use of unused wall junctions while displaying the contrasting iridescent shell work against the dark wood background. The fitted doors open using the working lock and key, keeping contents secure within the fitted interior shelves. The historic construction suits studies, drawing rooms, or entrance halls aiming for an authentic English country house aesthetic.

FAQs

Originating in the early eighteenth century, Queen Anne style furniture is characterised by refined proportions, rich wood veneers such as walnut, curvilinear forms, and delicate decorative elements like geometric inlays.

Cabinets from this era were typically constructed using solid walnut or oak frameworks adorned with walnut veneers, brass hardware, and intricate parquetry or mother of pearl inlays.

Authentic pieces feature period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetail joints, oak or pine secondary woods, hand-forged brass hinges, and natural patination on the timber and ironwork.

An antique corner cabinet utilises underused vertical space in a room and pairs well alongside minimalist modern furnishings, creating a balanced contrast between historical craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics.

Keep the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking or lifting of the inlay, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish sparingly.
